When I get into my car sometimes my theft system light will jump on and my car won't start for about 15 minutes. I have been trying to figure out what causes this to happen and how can I stop it. Is there anything that I can do to reset it without having to wait the 15 minutes. Obviously if I am in a rush I don't want to have to wait for the car to reset. Please help me

Might be having an intermittent problem reading the key, try this to reprogram
- Ignition to "run" position, try to start and let key return to "run" position
Approx ten minutes security light will go off
turn key "off" and wait 5 seconds
repeat 2 more times for a total of 3 relearns. Turn key off, then start car

This guide will help

Electrical problem
1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass

My car theft system has been acting up lately the thing will turn on for no reason sometimes for 10 to 15 minutes and I cannot turn the car on. Sometimes it will do it more then once leaving me stranded at parking lots, stores etc. I cannot get a normal job for fear of this problem and I dont know how to fix it the GMC dealer wants me to pay 50 dls to check it but I dont even have the money. How can I disactivate or bypass this problem? Will one of those remotes to start the car work since it doesnt involve the key? Please help me I'm desperate. Thanks

First, if it happens, turn the key to the run position and let it sit for aprox 10 minutes until the light goes off. It should start then. As far as the dealer, they are the only ones that have the proper test equipment to diagnose where the problem is coming from. As far as a remote start, it won't help and you can't bypass the system.

Electrical problem

Yesterday I had a new ignition switch put in my car because I was having trouble getting it to start. They diagnosed it as an ignition problem after testing the battery and the starter and they were fine. Today I STILL couldn't get the car to start until I tried 5-8 times so I took it back. Now they are saying that there is some kind of problem with the Pass-lock anti theft device and they want me to bring it back tommorow so they can fix it. The car is a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Have you ever heard of the pass-lock system causing the car not to start? If so, what causes it and what can be done to fix it? Please help.

How to disable the alarm in a 1997 oldsmobile cutlass supreme sl 3.1 v6. I do not have the key fob when I bought the car nor do I have door key. The horn its self isnt going off (i think someone unplugged it) but the parking light flash and I can hear a ticking. It does it when doors or trunk opens or I hit the car or when moving faster than 5 mph.
Im hoping to buy the keyless entry buttons very soon and hope it can shut it off. But I would like them off now

The system can't be by-passed. You need a dealer to check it because they are the only ones with the proper equipment. As far as letting it sit in the run position for 10+ minutes, that will over ride the system so it will start. Just wait until the security light goes out.

I have power to the starter, but car won't turn over. Starter tests good. Bypassed the ignition with a push button switch, and the car started but wouldn't continue to run for more than a few seconds. Sounds like a security problem. Is there a wqay to reset the security on the car, or byupass it all together? Thanks

Unfortunatley your only option is to bypass the security system! They no longer even make the parts for this to be replaced or fixed. So your only option is to bypass the VATS and/or PASSKEYS security system in your vehicle!
