I went about a mile from home when my car began to spill out a large amount of oil then shut off. Now it won't turn over, start; completely dead.

It sounds like the oil filter seal let go or the oil pan drain bolt fell out and dumped the engine oil out and not the engine is locked up and needs to be replaced. To be sure you can use a breaker bar on the front of the engine to see if it will move by hand. I have included where to put the breaker bar. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem so we can see what's going on.

Thank you for the response. My husband said he does not believe that the engine is locked up. We just replaced it about 6 months ago along with the ECM. He put it on a battery charger and now it clicks but still will not start. It still has oil in it. Cannot tell where it spilled out from. I plan to try your suggestion tomorrow.

I would try moving the engine by hand and if it turns it sounds like the starter has gone bad but to be sure let's test for power at the starter motor trigger wire, this guide can help:

Here is how to change the starter motor out in case there is power at the trigger wire. Check out the images (below). Please let us know how it goes.
