Oil pressure light?

Even with a fresh oil changed and filled to the correct level with the proper oil, the oil light will come on when cold. If you accelerate above 1000 rpm the light goes out. After the car warms up the light does not come on even at low rpm. It does not produce a code.
I’ve been told the oil pressure sensor needs to be replaced. It’s located in the valley underneath the intake manifold.
Before I invest money in having it replaced, can you verify this or offer another explanation?

Hi,

I wish I could guarantee it, but I can't. However, chances are, that is what needs to be done. Often, the sensor will begin to leak where the electrical connector is located. It does this just enough to allow the pressure to drop.

I have a question. When the light is on (cold), do you ever notice any ticking or knocking from the engine? If not, chances are the pressure is good and it is the sensor. If you do hear noise, it could be low pressure, which is a concern.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

joe

Happy 4th!

Thanks for answering.
It doesn’t make a noise, so I’m going to have the sensor replaced.

Hi,

Sounds like a plan. If you decide to do it yourself, let me know. I'll get you the directions and help you through it. Also, if you have a chance, let me know if this resolves the issue.

Take care,

Joe
