Hi,

That is interesting. Have you since changed the oil? Gray really isn't something common unless there is something internal that is worn or damaged. Seeing a tannish color can indicate coolant mixing with the oil. On the other hand, if there is an issue with the PCV, it could allow moisture to build up in the engine.

Additionally, if you only make short trips, that can also cause a grayish color. When fuel burns, it creates water. If you have excessive blow-by, it can be getting moisture mixing with the oil within the crankcase. Again, that would likely go back to the PCV valve or a worn engine.

Are there any noises from the engine you have noticed or power loss? By chance, could you get me a pic of what you are seeing and upload it for me to see?

If the engine oil is black, it should be changed. Let me know if you have already done that. Also, remove the PCV valve and check to make sure it isn't plugged as well as the vacuum connected to it. See pic 1 below

Take care,

Joe

The oil on the Dipstick was on the low level and then I added almost a quart of oil. Then I noticed the difference in the oil color.

The oil appears to be a mixture of new and old oil. Which one is the best example related to your concern?
