How many quart of oil does this engine hold when changing the oil and filter? I put 6 quart in the engine, but it looks like it needs more oil. I can't see the oil on the oil dipstick when I check it.

This engine requires 7 quarts of oil when changing the oil and the filter. Be sure to start then engine first after you put the new oil and filter on to fill the new filter. This will give you an accurate reading on your dipstick.

You can still drive the vehicle without any problem. Just when you get the chance add the quart.

I am not sure if this is a 4 cylinder or a 6 cylinder, does the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder hold the same amount of oil when changing the oil and filter? I do know the engine is a 4.2L

There is no 4 cylinder option in the envoy/trailblazer. The 4.2L is an inline 6 cylinder engine.
