The truck starts fine idles high. When I give it gas it may stall and shake resulting in no power steering or brakes, if I drive down the road it will clear up. It also uses a lot of gas.

Hi,

It sounds like either you have a large vacuum leak, or the fuel pressure is too high. Have you ever noticed any black or gray smoke from the exhaust?

Do me a favor. I need you to check for diagnostic trouble codes. The truck has an OBD1 system and doesn't require a scanner to retrieve codes. All you will need is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip. Here is a link showing how it's done:

Try that and let me know what you find. Also, please confirm the engine size. There are several different V8 engines that were offered.

Take care and I'll watch for your reply.

Hi,

Let me know if you get codes. The black smoke is an indication of too much fuel. It could be the fuel pressure regulator, a faulty coolant temperature sensor, or even bad injectors. Let me know if there are codes.
