Passenger side A/C blowing hot air

With the A/C and cold, the passenger side will only blow hot air. I replaced the actuator that requires removing the entire dash and airbag and it still doesn’t blow cold air. I tried the reset/recalibration and no luck. I don’t know what else it could be.

Just to clarify a couple things. You have dual temperature controls, correct? If so, we need to make sure you replaced the actuator on the passenger side.

I am attaching that process below and the calibration to make sure you performed this process to recalibrate these actuators.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-blend-door-motor

If this is everything you did then we would have to have an issue with the door itself.

There is a chance that we have an issue with a temperature sensor on the lower right side of the housing, but this is less likely. Do you have a scan tool that can monitor the HVAC system? If so, we need to see what the left and right temperature sensors are reading.

Basically, if the temperature sensor is not accurate then it is going to force the door to blow the wrong temperature to try and achieve the desired temperature.

Please see the info below and let us know what you find. Thanks

Yes, it is dual temperature. I thought there were two blend door actuator motors physically located on the passenger side. One which requires removing the entire dash and airbag, (the same one that controls the passenger side temperature) and the second, was below the glove box (controlling the driver side temperature. Also, for clarification, this is a 2003 Silverado 2500hd with manual, dual temperature. I know there is a third actuator motor but for the sake of this question, it’s irrelevant. The one I replaced had been making a strange noise all summer. It would stop making the noise if I slid the passenger side temperature control up (warmer) two notches. Then recently it stopped making that noise and this is when I was no longer able to get cold air from the passenger side vents. I can see the new blend door motor turn (or at least the little circle on top of the plastic housing, ) when I change the passenger side temperature up or down. So, I’m definitely confused about the location even after looking at the information you provided.

Okay. I suspect the new actuator has failed. The gear may be moving but if the temperature never changes then the gear is stripped internally.

This is very common on these actuators. What happens is people buy it and then change their actuator out which is stripped and then just put in the box and return it to get their money back. Then the parts store just inspects it and sees that it is not damaged visually and sells it again. These actuators very rarely show signs of use or damage because it is all plastic parts and the gear inside of them just stripes out and you can't see that unless you take it apart.

The passenger side actuator is the one that is on top of the air box shown below. The driver side is the one on the bottom as shown below.

There are a couple other actuators that control other operation such as the fresh/recirculation door, and the mode door which is which vents the air comes out.

If the actuator was making noise and it is now not changing the temperature of the air, then unfortunately it appears to have failed again.

Let me know what other questions you have on it.
