That's a common mistake. The "Battery" light has nothing to do with the condition of the battery. It means the battery is not being recharged while you're driving. The place that sold you the battery should have offered to test the charging system. Given the mileage and the intermittent nature of the failure, the best suspect is worn brushes inside the generator. Ford finally went to a really nice generator design in the 1990's, but the engineers must have figured out that they were almost as easy to diagnose and repair as the Chrysler systems, so they changed them. Now, if testing proves the generator is not working, it is more economical to just replace it. The testing has to be done while the problem is occurring.
