Hi,
If the sound is only happening when braking, it is likely related to the brake pads. Have you inspected them? There are sensors on them that are designed to touch the rotor and make noise, so you realize they need to be replaced.
Also, I'm in PA, so I know all about rust. LOL Make sure the backing/dust plate behind the brake rotor isn't rusted and touching the rotor.

Note that the directions are for the front brakes. If the directions are needed for the rear as well, let me know.

See pics below. Note: In pic 6, I highlighted 4 spots where the brake hardware is placed. Because of rust, take a file and clean the areas where the new hardware will sit. Pic 8 shows the slide pins. Make sure they are clean and lubricated with new brake grease.
