The car had a seized compressor when I bought it. I cannot remember if there was a noise from the tensioner before, my memory tells me there wasn't, but I was replacing the valve cover gasket, compressor, mounts, and since the tensioner had so much oil on it and was OEM and I know they are problematic in removing and installing because of the design so I went ahead and bought one from Amazon. I am thinking it could be from it. Only happens when the ac is off or if ac is on, but compressor kicks off. I have not fully filled it with freon so every 15 seconds or so it cycles. But it maybe the load? Usually if it happens it would with the load on not off, weird, no wobbling, belt looks good. The sound is similar to what you would hear if say a bolt is not tight enough and there is a washer behind it that has free play. But I made sure all bolts are tight.

Hi,

If you remove the belt and spin the compressor pulley, does it make any noise? I'm wondering if it has something to do with the electro-magnet clearance. See pic below. We may need to remove a shim.

Remove the belt and spin the clutch pulley to see if there is any noise from it. Everything else sounds like it is new, and the noise stops when the compressor engages. It's a theory at this point.

Let me know.

Joe

Ugh, yes, that is what I am trying to avoid, is removing the belt. It's pain on these v6 motors. But it happens when the ac compressor clutch is off though not when it's on.

When the clutch is not engaged (off), that could be when you hear it. Once engaged, the clutch is engaged tightly.

Other than that, I'm not sure what to say.

Hi,

I listened to the videos again. The more I listened, the more it seems to make the noise when the clutch is engaged. Is that correct? If it is, remove the belt (I know it's a pain LOL) and spray some brake cleaner on a clean cloth. Wipe all pullies. I would also replace the belt. It may be the entire problem.

That is what I would try. If you have already done this, let me know.

The noise is there only when the A/C compressor is not engaged. And now with the new tensioner there is a squeak when revving the motor and while driving. I'll see about changing the belt.

In the video, it sounds like the noise comes when the compressor engages, but not being there, I can't tell for sure.

Since everything is new but the belt, I'm not sure what other it could be.
