When I turn my car on, there is a an odd knocking, tapping type noise. The noise is louder in cold temperatures. And it is not really noticeable when I am driving, only when I first start the car while it is warming up. I am not sure if this is abnormal, but it did not used to do this. Any possible suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Noises are best checked at local repair shops as they can hear them and we cannot. It can be anything inside or outside of engine. At a repair shop they normally will let it sit to get a better diagnosis either overnight or all day so if you have a garage close to your home or work would be best to take it there.

The Kia Forte is somewhat similar to the Hyundai Elantra and the Elantra's tend to have the same problem upon cold starts until it warms up. We have replaced anything from the CVVTs, timing chain tension-ers, and engine assemblies. Like HMAC300 had already stated, its best for someone to be physically present to hear the noise. Otherwise we can only speculate based on what you tell us. Hope you get it straightened out!
