Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.
That is a difficult question to answer not knowing the cause of the noise. If it is valve noise, the most likely suspect is what is called a knock sensor. This sensor basically tells the computer how to fine tune ignition timing. If it is bad, you often times will get valve clatter.
With that in mind, if the check engine light stays on when the engine is running, you should have the computer scanned to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a quick video that shows how that is done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but often times parts stores will scan it for free. So, if the light is on, have this done and let me know the codes.
If it is valve clatter, it should be addresses as soon as possible. It can cause damage.
Here is a link that discusses engine noises. I am adding it for you to review. It may help you eliminate possibilities.

Also, here is a link that discusses how a knock sensor works:

If possible, record the noise and upload it for me to hear. Also, if you determine the knock sensor is bad, let me know and I will provide the directions for repair/replacement.
Take care and let me know if I can be of more help.
Joe
