Hello, I was having issues with the vehicle not starting so I replaced the battery with a new one. The old one tested at only 425 watts. I then replaced the alternator. Started once then didn’t. Hit the starter and it started. Replaced the starter and it started twice since then. I went to start it tonight and no crank no start no lights at all. Completely dead. What’s my next course of action?

Hi,

Does anything electrical work? You mentioned completely dead. If nothing is working, we need to check the battery terminals to confirm they are in good condition and tight. If they are, I need you to take a test light, multimeter, or voltmeter and check to see if the battery has power and isn't fully drained.

If the battery is still charged, open the fuse box under the hood and check any of the fuses to see if there is power to them.

Here is a link that explains how that is done:

If you find no power to anything, remove the battery and return it to where it was purchased and have them load test it.

Let me know what you find,

Joe

Hey, so I tested the battery and it still has power but weak power. But when I jump start it the truck start. I have noticed the courtesy lights under the driver dash and passenger dash flicker, I’m guessing it’s a possible electrical drain and I’m also hearing a clicking noise from the rear tailgate, I was having a problem with the rear window wiper which maybe Is draining the battery.

Hi,

As far as a power drain, that is a very good possibility. To determine what is happening, we need to do the following.

First, we need to start at the power source, the battery. If possible, remove the battery and take it to a place like Autozone. Have them charge and test the battery for you. They do it free of charge.

If the battery is good, return it to the vehicle. Connect the positive cable first and then the negative. Make certain the terminals are clean and tight.

Since the lights are flickering, we need to check if the alternator is doing its job. Follow this link. All you need is a voltmeter or multimeter.

Get to this point and let me know what you find. If you have additional questions, let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Hey, update on this. It starts and is at 11.85-12.00 volts when off. I ended up taking the rear hatch cover and unplugging the rear wiper motor. Ever since then it’s started up every time. I appreciate your help so much in solving this. Much appreciated!

Hi,

Thanks for the update. That certainly could have been the electrical draw. I'm glad it has been working since you disconnected it.

Regardless, take care of yourself, and feel free to come back anytime in the future.
