Car will not crank using ignition key.
fuses check good.
upper and lower crank sensors replaced.
battery checks good.
fuses under rear seat check good.
car will start if shorted out starter relay then shuts off immediately.
when key is turned display panel goes black.
tried both keys, no help.

Security light goes out after doors are closed, and ignition turned to the on position. I am looking now at the neutral safety switch and will check that.
All I can say now is help?

Car is an STS.

Hello again,

Okay, when you turn your ignition key to start, what happens? Does the engine crank but not start? Does it just click? Does it sound like a machine gun? Or does it do nothing at all?

Thanks,
Alex

You hear a click dash lights go out and nothing happens. No starter noise and yes the security light is on now, and have tried the lock doors and windows and wait routine and nothing. And thank you thus far.

Hello again,

This could be a problem with your vehicle's Vehicle Theft Deterrent module (VTD). In the diagrams down below I have included a description of how your vehicle's VTD works and pinpoint tests to determine the problem with the VTD system. Please go through these guides and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex

The fuse box picture you have sent is not the same configuration as mine and there is no designation of THFT 1 on my legend under the fuse box cover, nor is there one on yours either. That being said I can feel clicking and hear clicking under hood fuse box as well as the fuse box under rear seat. Would it help if I sent VIN?

Hello again,

I also could not find a THFT 1 relay anywhere. I looked up a wiring diagram for your vehicle's theft deterrent system and no where on it does it have a relay on it. I have included it in the diagrams down below as well as a factory diagnostic troubleshooting guide for your vehicle's anti theft system from our other resource. Please go through this guide and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello again,

Okay, sorry about that. In the diagrams down below I have included the fuel pressure specs for your vehicle. It is just barely out of range, only a P.S.I. I would allow that to a guage variation, but I will let you decide. Please keep us informed.

Thanks,
Alex

The reason I thought fuel pump is when I jump the starter relay the engine will start and immediately shut off, possibly gas starved. On normal start I turn key and I hear a click and all dash displays go out then back on after key return. Have replaced the chip on top of key and the cage the key assembly goes into. Everything on the car works, lights, radio, heater, seats, windows but no start.

Hello again,

That's why I was leaning towards the immobilizer or a problem with the ignition switch itself. What did you find out when you went through the immobilizer troubleshooting guide I sent earlier?

Thanks,
Alex

Hello again,

Okay, you will either have to have this equipment to program the new keys to the anti theft system in your vehicle, or have the dealership do it for you. I have included the key programming procedure for you in the diagrams down below. Please keep us informed as to how everything is progressing.

Thanks,
Alex

I have tried to communicate with vtd system, have 2 scanners and neither of them are tech 2 I guess, since I cannot justify 1000 up 3500 dollars gm scanners, it seems I am SOL. I did not replace key or tumbler as key turns freely and comes in and out no problem. New transponder installed on key switch and have gone thru relearn procedure for hours. Security light never truns off. Any ideas.

If I can jump in here. I would do a CAN scan which is the future of automotive repair. you can get a CAN scanner from Amazon for about $50.00. here is a video to show you how. No subscription needed from the Amazon units.

Did not mean to be testy with Alex. I do appreciate the help but this car has been a total pain. I think I have a chance to use a tech 2 scanner for a while. Will reply once I have a chance to test it. Thanks, Larry
