Hey everyone,

Wanted the groups advice on a problem with my vehicle listed above XS.

So this started a few months back, basically I was idling, and the car started shaking and was idling very rough, few seconds after the SES light started flashing to which I promptly shut off the car to have it diagnosed. The OBD scanner showed misfire on cylinder 5, I changed out the spark plug and boot and the problem went away. Fast forward another month and the same thing happens (again at Idle) and I knew it was a misfire, checked it and cylinder 5. So this time I changed out the coil pack. Car drives fine now a few weeks later it does the same thing and SES light comes (same symptoms as misfire) on but this time the car shut off instantly. Now even if I try turning it on, it won’t crank. All the electronics are working and I can hear the fans turn on as well when it goes into the on position but no crank.
The weirdest part is now the OBD scanner says it cannot read the vehicle and won’t get a proper reading. Any ideas? I’m pretty lost at this point.

Hi,

First, will the vehicle start in neutral? If not, I need you to check the two fuses in pic 1. They are in the under hood fuse/relay box. In addition to just checking the fuses, make sure there is power to them.

If you look at pic 3, it shows the fuses that power the DLC. Check the two fuses there as well.

Next, check for power to the black/yellow (larger wire) at the starter. It should have 12v all the time. If there is no power, suspect the fusible link has failed. If there is power, then you need to check for power to the white wire when the key is in the start position.

Once we get the DLC working, this vehicle requires a can system scan. Here is a video to help explain how it is done and why newer vehicles require it:

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe
