I took my car in yesterday for front and back rotors and pads replacement. This morning, while hitting my brakes, I heard knocking noises, but not every time I was hitting my brakes. According to the invoice, it noted that the first 200 miles, I will hear a squeaky noise. So, I called the mechanic just a few minutes ago and he said it's normal for new pads and rotors to make some noises, but they will go away once I hit 200 miles (?). I hate to doubt this mechanic who received good reviews, but is this normal? He would've told me to bring back my car if this was unusual to him but he rassured me. I've read a lot of complaints about the same problem as mine on different forums, but nothing says it's normal. Please help! :-(

Hi there,

Some after market pads can be a sloppy fit in the caliper, this in it self is not a huge problem, but you can get this knock as the pads shift under braking, also a anti rattle spring may be missing or broken, you can get a compound that sticks the pad backing plate to the piston and helps stop this knock, if it is just slop in the fittings, ask your mechanic if this is your problem.
