I turned on my air conditioner and nothing, I took it a shop and they said it could take a while to tell exactly what the problem could be and from the way it sound it could be costly. Could you tell me what could be some of the possible problem with the system?

May be an aerial earth problem for the radio and get the refrigerant charge checked, you may have a leak in the system.

Air Conditioning problem
1998 Nissan Maxima 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I'm experiencing an intermittent A/C problem with my 1998 Nissan Maxima. The A/C works 8 out of 10 times. It works on most days here in South Florida. It seems that the problem occurs more frequently at night or when it rains. The A/C doesn't come on for 20-30 minutes. If it's raining outside it makes driving very dangerous because the windows fog up. I had taken it to the Dealer and they told me it was the radiator. After spending $700 dollars for a radiator the problem did not go away. I took it to another service station, friend of m y neighbor, and they told me the radiator fan and assembly needed to be replaced. I spent another $620 and the problem still did not go away. It's the strangest problem and I don't know what else to do at this point. I can't pinpoint what the issue is because the A/C will blow cold in less than 5 minutes on most days. It just seems like after or during a rain or at night some times it won't start blowing cold for a long time (20-30 mins as mentioned above) but then it just kicks and starts blowing. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Your problem appears to be pretty obviously electrical. The problem is that the electrical system cannot be troubleshooted unless the problem is resent at that time. It would be pretty easy if it was timed correctly but impossible if it is not.

Air conditioner problem: it blows cold air only at high speeds on high ways but when idle like in a traffic it blows only ordinary air.

Ordinary air? Lol. Check to see if your fans are operating when air conditioner is on they should. If not check relays and fuse under hood. Also make sure condenser is not clogged up with leaves and debris. It sounds more like a fan problem on condenser though not kicking in.

Yeah lol ordinary air, I mean its just like a fan with no cold air condition, also noted that it is working really good when at night when temperature is low, Fans are running excellent I did a full check for all the relays and fuses all are in function and working.

Condenser is not clogged and I did a air blow cleaning all the dust that was on it, but it is still the same !

And just for your information, the AC gauge readings are both normal for high and low pressure.

If it works good at speed then either there is not enough Freon in system if all things are working or maybe your terminal ends on battery and hvac temp actuator blend door is closing due to not enough power. You say the pressures are normal but if they are normal it should cool so things may not truthful. Is the belts tight and not worn out as recommended replacement of tensioner and belt is 60,000 mi. The whole story isn't be told here.

Well then I guess I need to replace the belts.
And the other thing is, what about the condenser, do you think it can be clogged and can cause this?

When I turn on my AC it might blow cold or warm air. If it's blowing warm I have to turn the blower off and then back on several times until it cools off. Once the air is blowing cold, it does not stay that way for very long. I have to flip the switch again to get it blowing cold. What's wrong?

Hello -

To better assist you please tell me if your model is a GLE, GXE or SE. Also the engine size in liter and the 8th digit of your VIN.

When it is blowing cold air are you driving, that is the car is moving down the road and then when you come to a stop, then it starts to blow warm air.

Not the condenser but if desecant bag broke it could clog the orfice and screen what are the pressures at what temp and at about 1500 rpm. If this is auto temp control where yo set the temp then it may be a problem with that unit.

My car is a 1955 Nissan Maxima SE. It has a V6 engine (liter-?), And the 8th digit of my VIN is D.

The car can be moving or sitting still when the change in climate occurs. It can be cool and sitting still or warm and moving, and the only thing that potentially rectifies the promblem is switching the blower off and on (sometimes several times over).
