What tools do I need to remove the 3 bolts to replace the thermostat. There is very little room to put a tool especially for the inside bolt. I need to know what to use to remove the bolt. It has to be able to get onto the bolt and over the metal flared pipe which attaches to the rubber radiator hose. How long does it have to be to get some leverage Do I need some kind of seal when I replace the old themostat with another one? Since all the water seems to have evaporated from the engine block do I need to do something prior to trying to start the car?

Hi rjwilkes49,

I believe a common ring 10 mm hex spanner or coupling should be able to do it.

You need to replace the thermostat gasket too.

Before starting work on the thermostat, test which area is leaking first as you have coolant loss.

After replacement of thermostat, you need to bleed the system before starting and running the car.
