Heating up too quick

I have a 89 nissan 240sx and it heats up quickly
i drive it for 5 to 10 mins and the needle is already half way. The needle stays there all the time it doesnt move more than that. Im just wondering is that normal for the needle to stay at half. The thing taht worries me is how quicky it gets there to the half point.
can anyone help me?
