Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Are you referring to the AC compressor or the idle pulley? I attached a picture of the belt routing. Can you tell me which part has broken?

Thanks,
Joe

I have marked the pulley that broke. It is close to the alternator and was hoping to get a belt that removes the AC and broken pulley. Picture attached.

Okay, that is the idler. Honestly, I see no way to eliminate it. If you remove or eliminate that part, there is no way to obtain the belt/pulley surface area to run the alternator. As a result, you are going to have the belt squealing most of the time. If it was only the AC compressor, I was going to suggest an AC compressor bypass pulley. They are not expensive and basically, you remove the compressor and bolt on the bypass pulley assembly. It easily takes the place of the compressor. However, the idler is needed.

Is any of the broken bolt exposed? Are you able to get a drill in there to drill it out and then use an easy out to remove the broken stud?

Let me know.

Joe

Joe,

Thank you for responding.
The bolt is broken inside the hole on the block. We tried to drill it out but the easy out broke in the drilled hole. I was unable to drill any further at that point. It is a real tight fit so it is difficult to get any tools in there and have any leverage. So I was hoping to find a belt to use so I can at least to use the vehicle now as I am with out transportation.

I also was looking to do a head gasket at some point because it has oil leaking. Is the bolt hole for the pulley on the head or in the engine block itself?

Thanks again for your help.

Sam

If I recall, it is on the block. Are you sure the head is leaking or is it the valve cover? If it is the head, you may open up room to access the bolt.

Also, if you remove the inner fender, are you better able to access the pulley location?
