The car can be brought to a rapid stop (ABS activating) when applying serious force to the brakes. However, the pedal goes almost all the way to the floor (a thumbs width over the floor). It actually feels like the pedal reaches its maximum travel. I bring the car to the dealer and ask if this is supposed to happen. He says; yes, it is. Then presses the brake pedal a few time (car not moving, engine running). He says it is fine. That the brakes are supposed to feel like that. I just had the brake fluid replace by a professional, and is simply not happy with these brakes. I have never been able to push the brake pedal to the floor on any other new car. Is he right?

The brake pedal should not go to the floor at any time. It sounds like you have some air trapped in the system and especially the ABS control valve. To bleed this system correctly you will need a ABS brake scanner that can open the valve at the time of bleeding. I would also install a new master cylinder to be safe.

Here are a couple of guides to help you get the problem fixed:

Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

The system has just had the brake fluid replaced replaced. So not that. I was able to drive another MX5 today. The brake was similarly soft. Apparently it is just how the system works.

Can I ask why the brake fluid was replaced on a 2017 model, was there a problem, was this done at a dealer under warranty? With the engine off, and after pumping the brake pedal to expel all vacuum, do you have a high and hard pedal?
