Will ceramic brake pads fix this? (Note: there is zero sound issues with the vehicle, it sounds perfect when driven, but brakes are extremely soft.) A mechanic says there are no signs of leakage or that it’s a problem with the brake fluid; and insists ceramic brake pads would fix this. But I’m a young woman with no knowledge of car repair and I’m worried they just want my money. Please help!

Hello,

First of all, have you had the brakes serviced recently and the problem started?
Did it happen all of a sudden? or slowly developed?

There are few reasons why the brake pedal gets soft or goes to the floor.
One of the most common reasons is when there is air trapped in the brake line. If air is trapped in the line the pedal will be soft as the air will compress (but the fluid does not) and reduce the effectiveness of the brake and the pedal will go to the floor or be soft.
It can also be due to a failing brake master cylinder as well as any type of leak.

Here is a helpful guide that goes over the basics:

Simply changing the pad to ceramic will not have any improvement. It will be important to figure out what happened first.

Please let me know little more information of what you have been experiencing and when this all started.

Thank you.
