2006 Mitsubishi Lancer 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

Hi, my Service Engine Soon light came on. I have 30K miles on the car and keep it in great condition checking oil and filter every 3K miles. Any idea how I can get the light to go off? I've lost my job and don't have a lot of money right now. My son is going to change the spark plugs and the air filter and gas filter. Do you agree that is enough for a 30K mile tuneup? I'm trying to save money wherever I can. Thanks very much.

My check engine light also came on my 2006 Lancer, I took it to carshop and they put on diagnogistic and it showed that the sensor on the catalyst convertor was gone bad on it. So take to mechanic shop and they should tell you for sure what the problem is.
