1999 Mitsubishi Galant Overheating?

I have a 1999 mitsubishi galant with 118,306 miles and I just bought it and the dealer had told me that the engine temperature guage was broke but it had nothing to do with the engine itself.

Best get that temperature gauge replace asap you won't know if the engine is overheating and will cause some serious damages if it happens-what you smelling has nothing to do with the gauge-You're leaking somewhere an oil leak also can do some major damages
