Hi i have a 1998 mitsubishi eclipse gs-t i4 turbocharged...it was leaking fumes from the header cause it had cracked so i decided to buy an aftermarket turbo header for it but there seems to be a problem...3 out of the 4 bolts are the ones that have nuts welded on to the top while the one sticking out is on with a free spinning nut...i was wondering how i should take out this bolt without stripping it because i don't want to make it harder for me to take out my header...i was given a suggestion to buy a propane torch and heat up the turbo where the bolt was stuck untill it was glowing but i thought i didn't want to damage my turbo also...any help here? thanks for your time!

Hi there,

there are several ways to do this, either use two nuts and lock them against each other and undo the stud, use a stud extractor or weld a nut to the stud and undo it, both last two ideas will normally requite the replacement of the stud with a new one.

So I went to autozone and rented their tool set for it.I worked on it today. The results are worst then before.I broke the stud. It was stripped to its baldness and the rusty part that was giving me problems broke off and is stuck even deeper. Should I just drill the thing?

Hi there,

you can drill it, but you will have to be very careful that you don't do any damage.
