I got a random misfire code that came up on my car. It was subbed with bank 1, sensor 2 which I have now replaced. I now have 1 brand new O2 sensor and checked the other sensor and both should be good. I recently also replaced my spark plugs, checked coil packs, and fuel injectors and my car is still misfiring. I can hear a popping sound from the exhaust when I drive, which I assume it’s the misfire, and occasionally I see greyish smoke coming out of the exhaust. Catalytic Converter is also fine not sure what else to check.

Hello OPALMA1080,

I would do a compression test. It sounds like you may be burning oil.

The popping could be part of the misfire because the unburned fuel will enter the exhaust. It may also be a timing issue.

I would start with the compression test. If you don't already have a compression tester you can rent one at your local auto parts store.

Here is an article on how to perform this test:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-engine-compression

Do the test once and record all your readings. Then put a capful of oil in a cylinder and test it again, one cylinder at a time. If the readings are higher then you may have bad rings. If there is little to no change it may be the valve seats which would let oil in from the valvetrain.

I found one on Harbour Freights website for $30.

Here is the link:

While renting one is easier, they usually get banged around a lot which could give you false readings so you might want to consider getting a new one.

Can you send a picture of what your plugs looked like for me? This will tell me how and what else your engine might be burning.

Also, what type of plugs did you replace the old ones with? I only use OEM plugs in my repairs because ones from the parts stores usually don't meet the right specification that the manufacturer requires and will cause it to misfire as well.

Mitsubishi recommends NGK DILKR7B6 to be used.

I am also adding the compression specs for you.

One other thing I would look at is the turbo. This could also explain the smoke. Any noise coming from the turbo at all or poor acceleration?

Thank you,
Brendon
