Hello. As the resident former used car dealer (among other trades) I'll chime in here. It's all about price, condition, and history. How many owners has the car had? Is it clean? Does it appear well maintained? What's the brands history? What's the average cost of ownership?
A few years ago I bought a 2000 Chevy Blazer with 148,000 miles for $1,600.00 (high for a dealer in this area). But it was clean as could be, a one owner car, and was very well maintained. Possibly the best $1,600.00 I've ever spent. Nowadays it's bearing 180,000 and I use it as a mail route car, stopping and going 600x in a day over a 60 distances anywhere from 55-80 miles in rural NC. It takes quite a beating. But it's still strong and has had relatively few problems (had the front suspension rebuilt once and put a radiator in it once). I'd trust it to drive to California tomorrow if I had to go.
The point is, it's all about the car's history. Answer those questions and you'll know if it's worth it.
