Drop in miles per gallon

From the first day I got it it averaged a constant 57 mpg. Soon as it hit about 47,000 miles mpg started to fall and now it is at 41.5 mpg. I tried different brands of gas but no improvement. I have an extended warranty on the car so I took it over to the dealer. They checked it out and said there is nothing wrong with the car and could not explain why the drop in mileage. I am at a loss as to why.

Has your driving changed? Maybe you are going farther to work now and getting on the highway. My understanding is that these cars actually drop mpg's on the highway, unlike standard cars. Aside from that, the standard things to look at would be an air filter, spark plugs/wires/coils, and other things on the regular four cycle gas engine.

I would also ask if it feels like it is dragging a bit when you start off. If so, you could have a brake caliper that is sticking a little bit, causing the engine to work harder to push the car along, burning more gas.

Was checked by dealer and they said nothing wrong with the car. Actually I am driving locally lately to where I should be getting more mileage.

I doubt the dealer actually looked at the air filter and spark plugs. I would suggest changing those if they have not been done yet.
