MIL-Code 27

Using an OBD1 Scan Tool (OTC3211) that I was able to purchase recently, it states there is a MIL-Code 27 (Output driver circuit does not respond to control circuit) fault at Injector 6 Control Circuit. I have checked continuity from the injector connector back to PCM connector, and when doing so, I have also cleaned and added dielectric grease at all the connections. I have done the 10 volt test, which it passed.

I have been having this problem for a while. Unfortunately, it is erratic. Sometimes the engine works fine for a couple-hundred highway miles, and other times it happens within a couple of city-driving miles. Sometimes it appears to happen when decelerating, but also when driving on open road at highway speeds.

Hi,

I may know what is happening. The code is for cylinder 4 and not 6. It sounds like you are focusing on the wrong cylinder. (See picture 1)

If you look at pictures 2, 3 and 4, they show how to diagnose this specific code. Pictures 3 and 4 are from the same flow chart. However, I had to cut it in half to make it readable. I did overlap them so you can follow the procedure.

Thank you for the quick response! Your suggestions are definitely worth pursuing.

However, did you notice this is issue is with a 1993 Dodge 5.2 L engine? It has the much less sophisticated OBD1, and code 27 applies to all cylinders, according to my factory repair manual. For example, Code 25 applies to IAC motor circuits, not Injector #2 control circuit as noted on the list..

I look forward to any additional thoughts.

Those are the codes I have. They are broken down to specific cylinders. Also, it isn't a common problem that I have seen. Do you have a Chrysler repair manual?

Yes, I do. I have done all the tests they recommend, it passed all of them, expect for testing the fuel delivery of the fuel injector. Unfortunately, the problem happens when I am driving and not when it is idling.

You know, even at an idle, it may show some variation to the norm (or at least what is considered the norm). I would still try it.
