Hi, my problem not in performance of car, it is the strange metallic click like spring click from the engine, can't hear it in first 10 minute drive, but after that I noticed it when I accelerate after press on gas pedal once click and the other click follow it within seconds when I release gas pedal. In other words at start of rpm rise and when rpm fall, it is (first click. Seconds. Second click), and this episodes continue with each acceleration, this noise have been noticed for 8 years, some mechanics said this is normal, but I am not sure this is normal. I accept the A/C clutch click
But why click while A/C is off? This is non sense. I open hood and tried to locate the source of noise, I think it came from tensioner area. What is your opinion? Is this sound can be from tensioner? As I said this noise is heard for the last 8 years and really want solve this issue. I can hear it while driving, it is clear click. I hope you can help localize source of this irritating clicks.
Thanks

Good morning,

Can you upload a video of the noise so I can hear what you hear?

That chirp is a bearing. I would remove the belts and start it up and see if it is there.

One of mechanic said it is clutch of A/C as it is operate using HVAC system
I am really confused. Other thing which bearing you mean? Can send me picture or article about bearing?
Thanks

First, you need to do what I suggested. If you remove the belt and the noise stops, then it could be one of several bearings. Alternator, tensioner, pulley, A/C bearing among the few.

If the noise is still there, then it could be a water pump.

Do the test I suggested.

That click sounds like your A/C compressor clutch engaging and disengaging which is normal as long as your a/c is performing good. Here is the official description of the modes of operation for your HVAC system:

The humidity sensor is used by the HVAC module to optimize the A/C compressor cycling for fuel economy while maintaining passenger comfort.

When the relative humidity inside the vehicle is low, passengers are comfortable at a higher air temperature. The A/C compressor can be shut down before the commanded temperature is reached to increase fuel economy while maintaining passenger comfort.

DEFROST/FLOOR

- The HVAC module will transmit an A/C request to the PCM via the Instrument Cluster (IC).
- The A/C compressor will cycle per normal compressor operation if the ambient temperature is above freezing.
- The engine will run continuously and will not shut off when the A/C compressor cycles off if the ambient temperature is above freezing.
- The A/C compressor will not operate and the engine will cycle per normal hybrid operation if the ambient temperature is below freezing.

PANEL

- The HVAC module will transmit an A/C request to the PCM via the IC only if the A/C button is selected.
- If the ambient temperature is above approximately 10°C (50°F), the A/C button is selected and the ECON button is not selected, the engine will run continuously and the A/C compressor will cycle per normal A/C compressor operation.
- If the ambient temperature is below approximately 10°C (50°F), the A/C button is selected and the ECON button is not selected, the engine will cycle per normal hybrid operation and the A/C compressor will run only while the engine is running.
- If the A/C button is selected and the ECON button is selected, the engine will cycle per normal hybrid operation and the A/C compressor will run only while the engine is running.

FLOOR

AUTO - ECON Mode OFF

- The A/C button will be automatically selected and the indicator will be illuminated. The A/C button may be deselected to disable A/C operation.
- The HVAC module will transmit an A/C request and engine run request to the PCM via the IC if the HVAC module has determined that A/C operation is required to achieve the selected temperature.
- If the ambient temperature is below approximately 10°C (50°F), or if the HVAC module determines that A/C operation is not required to achieve the selected temperature, an A/C request and engine run request will not be sent; although, the A/C indicator will remain illuminated. The engine will cycle only per normal hybrid operation and the A/C compressor will not cycle.
- If the ambient temperature is above approximately 10°C (50°F), and A/C operation is required to achieve the set temperature, the engine will run continuously, and will not shut off when the A/C compressor cycles off. The A/C compressor will cycle per normal A/C compressor operation.

AUTO - ECON Mode ON

NOTE: For vehicles built after 3/2008, in high ambient temperatures, the A/C will engage and the engine will run continuously for a short initial cool down period to allow the A/C compressor to run. This is done to allow the passenger compartment to cool somewhat before the A/C compressor begins cycling off with the engine.

- The A/C button will be automatically selected, and the indicator will be illuminated. The A/C button may be deselected to disable A/C operation and the initial cool down period.
- The HVAC module will transmit an A/C request to the PCM via the IC.
- The HVAC module will sporadically send the engine run request.
- After the initial cool down period, the engine will not typically engage for the purpose of running the A/C compressor; therefore, the A/C compressor will run only when the engine is engaged per normal hybrid operation.

Thanks, but as I told the A/C is off and the click still present?
Does clutch work even A/C is off?

Your vehicle has an auxiliary HVAC system that is responsible for cooling your high voltage battery, this will engage and disengage the compressor based on the temperature of the high voltage battery, this will make the compressor engage even though the A/C is not on. If you still have concerns, retrieve the codes for the high voltage battery system just to verify that there are no problems.

Thanks so much it is from A/C compressor.
Anyway to make sound faint? Spray, lubricant?
Thanks again for your accurate diagnosis.

Hi, I discovered lastly the cause of click in my car. It is from A/C clutch compressor. When it engages. The sound is a metallic click which is loud to degree I can hear it while driving. It occurs even the A/C is off. As I was told this normally happen because I have hybrid car which uses HVAC system to cool the battery using the compressor. My question is : how can I decrease the loudness of this click?
Any lubricant or spray to put between plate and pulley as the sound occurs when these two components knock to each other?
Others told me I have to change tensioner as it shakes a little when the A/C clutch engage which make sound louder.
Thanks

I hear the AC clutch engaging and disengaging but I am more concerned about the other rotating noise.

The clicking is not bad at all and there is nothing to lower the noise of it actuating.

The other noise is some type of bearing.

I wish you would do what I suggested to track down the source of the noise.

Roy
