I have a 1997 mercury villager 226000km, 3.0L. The problem is this.

The van starts up fine, runs fine. Drives for about 15-20min, (once engine warmed) then it starts chugging and pulling, then stalls out/shuts down. Starts right back up but ya cant drive/move or it just shuts down.

Took the van to a ford dealer to find out the problem. They told me its the front catalytic converter(plugged and glowing red) and the Intake Air Temperature Sensor. Shorted.

Ive had the front catalytic converter removed (threw a pipe in there). Illegal I know lol. The van still chugs out when warmed.
Im now waiting for the IAT Sensor to arrive.

My question is. Will replacing a shorted IAT Sensor fix the chugging problem? Does an IAT Sensor cause this chugging/stalling problem?
OH, and I got a headlight problem, no low beams, highbeams work fine. Just replace the bulbs or a short?

OK. The IAT sensor is replaced. That delayed the chugging for about an hour. Instead of the regular 15-20min. So that wasent the answer.

Anyone out there?
