You should check to see if you have a vacuum leak. To do this Turn it on and leave it in park then spray the vacuum hoses down with a parts cleaner of some sort. If the engine speed slows and starts blowing white smoke out the tail pipe you've found the location of the leak. I would advise not using starting fluid because of its likely hood to catch fire and or explode.
