Engine code P1131

I have a 1996 Mercury Sable with 161,000 miles and engine 3 liter over head valve. My engine light keep coming on and off, I took it to Auto Zone so they can do a diagnotic testing, the code that keeps coming up is P1131, I change the sparks pluga and wires and an oxygen sensor for the upstream bank one was replace. Sometimes the car has a hard time starting. Puzzled.

I had the same problem this week.I have a 02 xlt with the 4.6 V8 and it has 54500 miles. Just had the shop do a check regarding the P1131 code. They found that the "upstream" 02 sensor in bank 1 was bad-causing code. Had them replaced. Cost was $100 for sensor $100 or labor and $100 for diagnostic fee. Total $300. Hope this helps
