My Sable's tranny recently started slipping when i reach speeds in excess of 55 MPH.

It's been arctic cold temps here in Detroit so maybe the weather is an issue?

Checking tranny fluid would be the 1st step
have the TCM scanned for codes
codes will pin point any trouble if any
if none you may need to flush tranny fluid and filter change
refill with the proper tranny fluid
its use a special fluid
