Noises problem
2004 Mercury Marquis V8 Automatic 66000 miles

What could be the cause of a clicking sound when the gas pedal is applied? Just returned from a 2000 trip and the sound started on the return. When gas pedal released noise stops. Sound heard more at slower speeds such as 34-45 mph. Seems to be on the right side.

Hello -

So if I understand you correctly - if the car is sitting idling - you can push the gas pedal a few times and no noise... Clicking. This is only when the car is moving?

Is it worse at slow speeds when turning sharp?

Look under at the CV boots and see if they are torn at all.

Also, jack that side of the car up and spin the tire and see if you hear it then.

Also, just in case, please go to Auto Zone (AZ) or O'Reilly's (OR) and for FREE they can pull the codes to the car. Most important: Once they check your codes, if they find something and you don't get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that. While there for FREE also they can bring their tester out and check your battery, alternator and starter.

Last, is this a GS or LS model?

Let me know the above and we can take if from there.
