Electrical problem
1996 Mercury Marquis Two Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
My mom's car would not turn off yesterday. She said the key comes out, but the engine keeps running. She took it to a friend/mechanic, but he couldn't fix it. I haven't found a recall addressing this. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you for your help!!

i would start right at the key and work my way down, first step wouuld be to check out the ignition switch, the problem is most likely there but could be elsewhere.

check the igniton switch and post back.

I talked to my mom and she said that the mechanic replaced the ignition switch, but it still stayed on. What other things should I try and in what order should I try them? Thank you for your help : )

have the ignition tumbler checked out and see if the control arm inside the steering coloumn is good, if its worn or broke the key will turn but no response.
