1986 Mercury Cougar 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive 125000 miles

Stupid, but haven't had a battery in this car for a while. Which is Positive? The short cable that goes to the "solenoid" on wall in engine compartment?
Or, is it the longer cable that goes behind the altenator, and belt area?

Should be labeled or at least color coded (red for positive) but the positive cable will be longer going to the alternator as well as the starter. The black will be shorter since it is just the ground wire and doesn't have to travel as far.
