Bushings

I own a '99 E320 and have been told the "rear gear bushing" is missing. Being not familiar with that, what does that mean?

Being a factory trained MB tech I would think I would be familiar with this however I have never heard this term used in relation to a MB. Where there any other names it was called? What are the problems related to it?
