If this happens when the engine is warm or at operating temperature, I would think the Crankshaft Position Sensor is to blame. These fail often and usually when the vehicle is hot/warm. When the vehicle is cold, the car performs as normal. If this happens both warm and cold, it may also be a failing fuel pump. From past experience, I would think its most likelya crankshaft sensor.
