1983 Mercedes Benz 380sl Battery drain

My wife's '83 380sl is draining the battery while sitting. I am able to jump start the car, after allowing the battery to charge for about 1/2 hour. The battery light on the dash has been lit while the car is off and the keys removed which seems unusual. This is a brand new battery. Any idea's?
