Transmission problem
1982 Mercedes Benz 300sd Automatic 240000 miles

Hi,

I'm considering buying a 1982 Mercedes 300SD for 2k, for veggie oil conversion.

The car looks good and runs good for the most part.

The owner/seller recommends starting the car in "S" drive mode, or ultra low gear, and moving into drive after the car "shifts into Turbo" at around 20mph. What happens at 20mph is a very noticeable "bump" or "knock" as the gear shifts. How normal is this for this make/model?

Should the shifting be very smooth? Is this guy trying to sell me a car with a bad transmission?

Thanks!

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

I feel that this transmission is in urgent need of some serious attention, the shifts should be seamless and smooth, i would steer clear unless you are prepared to spend up on a re co transmission.
