I have a 2000 Mazda Protege 1.8L DOHC It Idles roughly and shakes the car. It Idles around 500-700 rpm roughly then will drop to 200-300rpm for a few seconds almost stalling then back up to 500-700. I put my code reader on and recieved the code# for misfire in the #2 cylinder. I replaced the plugs, wires, coil and I am still having the same problem. I did a compression test this morning and great compression
#1- 180psi #2- 183psi #3- 183 psi #4- 182psi
The car works great other than the rogh Idle. Could someone please help me to solve this problem.
I"m now thinking it could be a dirty injector. Could that be a good source to my problem if so would an injector service flushing be ok or should the injector be removed and done properly(just a thought) any suggestions would be greatly appreciated to my problem

After changing the plug for that cyl listen to the injector click on each cyl put putting a long screwdriver on the injector and one in your ear. If # two sounds differnt from then rest, replace the injector if not have a professional flush done. Make sure you change the fuel filter. Let me know

Thanks for the idea, I will try the screwdriver trick. As far as the fuel filter goes I think the protege only has a filter in the fuel tank not an inline one. I'm just trying to get the idle fixed so I can sell the car. I don't want to sell the car to anyone the way it's working. Do you think that it is the injector causing the problem?

I did the screwdriver check and all of the injectors are making the same clicking noise.

Have a pressurized injector cleaning done.

The injectors have a micro/micro filter and it stops up easily. I have on occasions removed the filter from the injector but it isn't the best idea. If the cleaning doesn't do the trick you may have to replace #2.

All depends on how long you will keep the car and how much money you want to invest. Let me know

Does this car have a ingle coil system on the front of the motor? If it does, check the coil out by removing the wires from it, if you find any back soot in the holes (or anything other than silver) oyu may have a coil problem. Actually I thinkthere is a recall on the coil (in canada). If this is not the problem you might try chceking for a vacuume leak at the intake gskt to the cyl head. OR there may be a problem with the EGR system. There were hardly any problems with the injector in the 2000 Protege's with the 1.8L motor

Thanks
