1992 Mazda MX3 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

my car did not pass smog. Since then I have replaced the catalytic converter and the muffler. The exhoaust pipe between the cat conv and muff, while solid, has alot of carbon build up in it. Could this be a reason for it not to pass smog
