The air smells like cat urine. Is there any way to clean the duct system? Are there internal air filters?
It could be cat urine, but is there a possibility that it could be stagnant water in the duct system from condensation? The car was garaged for several years before my daughter bought it.

It doesnt look like your vehicle has a cabin air filter, so thats out as far as changing goes. The duct systems are designed to not hold water, they drain. You may want to try Ozium os a similar air deodorizer/disinfectant to see if you can kill the scent. Use the spray with the fan on high and set to fresh air, not recirculate and spray at the base of the front windshield, it will pull it into the interior. May take a few treatments to completely kill the stink

It apparently is only the a/c that is a problem, she did not mention any problems during the colder months when the heat was on, so it may not be in the duct work.

Have you heard of or know of any other sources that could introduce an odor when the a/c compressor is operating?

It could be from build up in the evaporator box. Check the drain that comes through the firewall to be sure it is allowing the water out. If it is in the evaporator box only, you may have to remove it to clean it out. Other than that Im not aware of any odors from just the a/c.
