Engine runing rough, burned smell

Hi
I have a question a 1996 Mazda 626. This car has 187,000 miles but it was running really good. I change the oil three days ago, since it has high mileage, I purchased a Wal-Mart brand motor oil that was designed for cars with high mileage. It ran on the new oil for 150 miles and now the engine started to run rough. I drove it home for about 7 miles and When I got home, I smelled a burned like smell and the engine light came on. It is as if the car is running with only three cylinders or so. The oil still looks very clean and it is at Level. It could be a coincidence and some thing else unrelated to oil change is happening? Could you help? The oil I used is called Super Tech SAE 10W-30 motor oil.

Thanks

JR

Remove all the sparkplugs and inspect it. Also make sure the plug wires are not touching the exhaust manifold.

I did replace the spark plus and spark plug wires and it did fix the problem. My follow on question is; I could not see the coil wire to replace. I most cars I have seen, the coil wire comes out of the center hole on the distributor cap and goes to the coil, but not in my 1996 Mazda 626. Where can I find the coil to replace the wire, since I replaced the spark plug wires I want to replace the coil wire also to have a whole new set.
Thanks so much for your previous great and sure advice.

On my 1996 Mazda 626, when I turn on the lights, the instrument cluster only lights up the fuel gauge readout. All the others are off, such as the speedometer, RPM and temperature gauges are off. The check light worked when I had the engine problem. I check for a fuse and there is not a designated fuse for the instrument panel. Could you share some light on this issue? Thanks
