1997 Mazda 626 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 109K miles

Car was running fine then suddenly stopped. Would still turn over, if I stepped on the gas it would kick one time like it wanted to start but wouldn't catch.

After about 1 minute the horn came on, would not turn off until I disconnected the battery.

Car had been running for about 15 minutes when this happened.

It's been below freezing for a few days, around 23 degrees. No problems with it starting or running before.

Hello
Thanks for the donation

Is your anti-theft light flashing as normal, or is it staying on or doing anything unusual? It sounds like there may be a fault in the anti-theft system. This will shut fuel suppy to the engine off and would also be the reason for the horn.

No, nothing is wrong with the anti-theft. No lights or anything came on, plus the horn did not beep beep like it would with the alarm - it was a steady beeeeeeeeeeeep until I disconnetced the battery.

The engine just stopped while idling at an intersection, just like when it's turned off by the key. No noises, no lights on the dash, no indications anything was not right like it should be.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Tim

Ok.

So when you try to start it now, does the engine crank at all? Or does it just make a click noise?

If it is cranking, you need to test for spark at the plugs and fuel pressure at the fuel rail. It is either not receiving enough of one or the other (or both).

You may also want to test for power at the ignition switch.

Before the horn decided to start singing out loud, the car would turn over with no problems. I tried it twice, and when I'd step on the gas it would kick like it wanted to start but wouldn't catch.

After that is when the horn started wailing & I disconnected the battery (the only way to get the horn to turn off).

Went back to it a few hours later, reconnected the battery. The horn did not start wailing, and yes, the car would turn over but again, would not catch.

I have had it towed to a garage, hopefully they'll have it fixed or answers for me soon.
