My service 4wd light came on one morning. When I turned the truck off and back on again, the light went out. I have noticed that this seems to occur about every two days. I found out that there was a service bulletin from Dodge stating that the computer may need re-flashing. I had a mechanic check the problem and he thinks that the transfer case motor needs to be replaced. He also said that the passenger side exhaust manifold gasket needs to be replaced and that I it would be better to have the dealer look at it. If he is correct with his diagnosis, what do you think would be a fair cost estimate to have the dealer repair the truck?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi,

I attached the symptom from the TSB that I assume he is referring too. Did he happen to check for codes? If there were no codes then this TSB would not apply. However, with that message there is normally always some sort of code to go with it.

As for replacing the gasket, it appears to charge 1.6 hours to do the job and the part is less than $10. So you would take their door rate and multiple the labor plus a diagnostic charge which is normally an hour of labor, plus the part.

Let me know if there is the code that is talked about in which case the dealer will be able to perform TSB 21-005-12.
