Engine idle is normal cold through most of warm up. After warn to normal max on temperature gauge, idle try's to drop to 500 rpm at stop in gear. Drives normal above idle. Also problem is gone driving in rain. Makes no sense. When rain stops idle drops to 500 rpm again. Why?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

The idle speed should be between 600 and 700 in park or neutral with nothing running. See the attached picture. When in gear, it will be near 500. When the engine is cold, the fuel mixture is richer, so a slightly higher idle isn't uncommon. What does it idle at when it rains? Also, when you say the temperature is normal max, is the engine nearly overheating?

Let me know.

Take care,
Joe
