Often times, a poor connection will cause this type if issue. Remove the plug from the sensor and make sure there is no evidence of corrosion. Also, make sure the pins in the connector are not pushed in and are making good contact. Additionally, check the wiring to the sensor for evidence of damage. I've seen them partially melt, rub through from making contact, and just about anything you can think of.
One last thought, if you find nothing, we may have to disconnect the battery and check the actual power-train control module (PCM). They too can corrode.
