Loss of ignition- run/start

Code reader says "56 loss of ignition-run start" on the occupant restraint module. The fuses are all good. Is this code re-settable on the ORC?

Hi,

To get the code, did you use a scan tool, did it turn on itself, or did you perform the instrument panel self-check? If you used a scanner, it should be a letter followed by a 4-digit number. For example, P0300.

If you have a scan tool, check to see what codes are stored. I went through the double-digit codes looking for 56, but nothing is listed. It jumps from 54 to 60.

I tested the module individually with my code reader. That is where it says loss of ignition in the ORC module. The problem with the truck is that the ASD relay is not getting ground signal from the computer and therefore not closing. I was thinking the computer might not send that signal if the airbag control stops it.

Hi,

Loss of airbag control won't prevent it from running. It sounds like the PCM may have failed if you are not getting a ground signal. Have you checked the connector for corrosion or damage to the pins?

The camshaft and crankshaft sensors are going from 0 to 5 volts when the motor is rotated. PCM is getting ignition signal. Grounds are good. I disconnected all the O2, transmission, AC pressure sensors, Probably the PCM is bad. I have a donor truck to pull another computer from.

If the signal voltage to the CKP and CMP are jumping around, something is causing an issue. That should be steady when cranking. Either the PCM or a poor connection.

My understanding is that the CMP and the CKP send a square wave from 0 to 5 volts as the engine is rotated manually. Not with starter. Is this not the case?

When I use an oscilloscope, I crank it with the starter. Is that what you are using? If you are turning it by hand, I don't see how you could check for a crank/cam correlation.

Try cranking it and let me know the results.
